Why we love her: Joanna, also known to us as peanut, may be a cute, tiny blonde girl on the outside, but deep down she has a hardworking personality and dedication to snowboarding that clearly stand out. She has spent the past few winters in the contest scene and is currently on her way to competing in two World Cups, with the goal of qualifying for the 2014 Sochi Olympics (fingers crossed!) Come February she’ll be back in Tahoe, ready to film and make her way into the backcountry.

What are five things you’re thankful for this winter?
My health, friends, family, sponsors, Pandora for the jams, and smiling/laughter.
What are your plans for the upcoming season?
For the beginning of this season my focus will be the two World Cup events, hoping to Qualify for the Olympics to represent Poland! That would be an amazing experience. Then after February I will be focusing on filming & backcountry.
What is something that you would change about the snowboard industry if
The sport has turned into gymnastics, on snow; it’s less about style and more about how many times you can flip these days.
What advice do you have for girls who are about to try snowboarding for
the first time this season?
Definitely get a lesson or find a friend that can teach you & bring some knee/butt pads ha.
Competitions or filming?
I used to film a lot but I have been in the contest circuit for the last few years; I’d like to go back to focusing on filming and balancing it out with some contests.
Who influences you in snowboarding?
Any riders that are having fun; pretty stoked on Christy Prior & Anna Gasser, they have amazing style and are awesome ladies!
When it comes to snowboarding, describe your attitude.
I guess I can be a little bit of everything; I like to be motivated, but I like to remember I started riding because it’s fun & makes me smile. There are times to be serious, motivated, and playful but I think it should always be fun!
Best road trip you’ve been on?
That hasn’t happened yet; I’m planning a shred/beach Euro-trip that I’m super excited about in the next year!
Off the hill, we could find you…
Hanging with friends, at the gym, or relaxing at home.
Pirates or ninjas?
Favorite ice cream?
Definitely Coffee flavored.
If you could have a superpower what would it be?
To heal/cure the body & mind
What’s your sign?
Why do you think Shred Betties is important to women’s snowboarding?
I think it’s great to have a magazine like Shred Betties to get the girls and ladies stoked on snowboarding! It’s so important to have a good site to show the personalities of the athletes, promote events, and what the girls are up to!
