Fully Exposed: Life Experiences…
Erin Blaisdell
Typically in my “Fully Exposed” posts I try to get into something amazing that everyone wants to know about, but for this one you are going to have to either take what I say and apply it to your life, or just move on to another one of our great articles.
I’m starting this rant by saying, “Every experience is truly what you make it.” This is what my roommate said to me this morning as I stressed inside about what I was going to share with my readers today. My mind was not into it, I was dwelling on a terrible experience I just went through.
Long story short, I just got back from a trip to San Francisco to skate and visit some good friends. Skating went amazing! But, drama wise, it was the worst experience I have ever had on the West Coast and maybe my life. The drama was so bad I changed my flight and came home two days early. Goodbye amazing un-weathered skate parks, lazy days at Dolores Park, and PBR/Whiskey deals at the bar.
Hello East Coast, I have missed you dearly.
My boyfriend picked me up from the airport and I have never been so happy in my life to see his sweet face. I knew I was coming home to love and removing myself from all the drama I left behind on the west. Though, inside I was still fuming. I wanted to take something away from this experience and not just leave it up in the air like it never happened. Every experience you go through is a learning experience no matter what happens. It’s all how you look at it. Thinking this way makes me less angry and more happy I went through it. I feel inside that these terrible times make us a stronger person and allow us to grow into who we are. My overly smart mother once told me, “You can either let it eat you a part or grow from it and let the experience shape who you are today. But, in the end it’s your choice.” Of course I was planning on the choosing the path of anger and hatred, but hell we only live once and there are always worse things going on in the world.
Thank god for my healthy outlets that involve not only snowboarding and skateboarding but healthy eating, good friends, and writing. So even if this article makes no sense to you or does not apply to your life, I appreciate you listening. And if you take anything from this, I hope it is that you can overcome any negative experience you may encounter, no matter how terrible it may be. Take it and grow from it.
K, go skate.
