13 steps to boot fit

Shopping for boots? Below are 13 steps to prepare for a proper boot fit.

1. Schedule a specific time with your boot fitter.  This not only allows them to know that you are serious about getting boots, but also allows them to not be distracted by other things popping up. Expect to spend about an hour maybe more if problems arise.
2. Wash your feet and wear clean socks.
3. Clip those toe nails any good boot fitter will tell you that long toe nails can cause numerous problems
4. Bring the socks you would wear boarding with you.  Also make sure to ask your boot fitter if these are appropriate for riding.
5. Ask your boot fitter questions if you don’t understand the process.
6. A boot fitter is only as good as they are informed.  That means giving them a brief medical history of any past traumas to your feet and ankles.  Be sure to talk about any problems that you’ve had in the past. Communication is key here.
7. Bring your old boots with you.
8. A snowboard boot is not a shoe, don’t expect it to fit like one.
9. Be prepared to endure a bit of pain in the trial and error phase of trying things on.  Sometimes its best to take the pain, but be sure to communicate with the fitter.
10. Just because you like the look of a boot does not mean it’s the boot for you.
11. Ask your fitter about foot beds and have them go over all the advantages on everything from just aftermarket to custom orthodics.
12. Keep an open mind about which company you’re trying on, it might not be a company you like but it might be the best boot for you.
13. Tip your boot fitter they deserve it.
