Olympic Hopeful: Hannah Teter

Christina Johnson

An interview with Hannah Teter about her quest for the Olympics, her charities, and more!

The Olympic hopeful team has recently been announced and both you and your brother Elijah are on the team. What’s it like competing at such a high level with your sibling at your side?
It makes it that much more fun! I have always had one of my brothers on the contest road with me, basically, for the past 7 years.  They are the best friends and training buddies a girl could ask for!

What are you hoping to accomplish at this years Olympics?
I am hoping to do really well, so I can help make bigger changes in the world, and be a positive role model for kids. Going into the Olympics, I am excited to talk to the media about the importance of organics, drinking pure spring water, and never eating factory farmed meat.

What are you doing to help ease the stress of competing and media spots leading into this snowboarding season and the Olympics?
I am doing some tai chi, breathing exercises, playing the didgeridoo, and stretching.

You are working with Hannah’s Gold and World Vision on many awesome projects. Is there anything exciting you have planned in the near future with these charities?
I am planning on expanding Hannah’s Gold to be focused in more directions, like helping out in Darfur, and areas where children have been majorly affected by war and genocide.

For those readers not familiar with Hannah’s Gold, can you give us a brief overview of it and what it means to you?
It means helping out in a world that needs it.

Boarding for Breast Cancer seems to be gaining even more momentum, anything in store that you can share?
Burton partnered with CCS to make a sweet “Save the Melons” tank; all profits are going to B4BC.

Where do you see yourself and your career in 10 years as a young athlete?
It depends. If the earth continues to get polluted and nature continues to be destroyed, I see myself living in a world that is not as carefree and beautiful as the one we live in now.

You have been on the forefront of women’s snowboarding since filming First Descent. What’s it like being such a young woman that people look up to for inspiration?
I am trying harder to be an information source; I want to be able to educate people out there about how to be more effective with sustainability and nutrition. I want to share and spread knowledge on leading a healthy life to those who are less fortunate.

Do you have any advice your women and young girls who may be interested in snowboarding for the first time?
The most important part is having a good time with friends.

Which is better, competing or free riding?
Definitely powder riding!

Any final remarks?
My new eco/charity/online store website will be launching in December the old one is still up, but it will be even more awesome soon! Check it out at hannahsgold.com

We want to thank Hannah for doing this interview for us. Keep an eye on her and other Olympic hopefuls throughout the season!
