How did you get started snowboarding?
Five years ago I was standing on one ski with the whole outriggers deal. I like the feeling of the sport and being on the snow, but honestly; something was missing. I made up my mind that I would snowboard! At the time people looked at me and were like “an above-knee amputee snowboard? NO way, impossible.” There is some kind of invisible drive when people tell you that you can’t. But snowboarding is so much more than that to me. I found heart on a mountain, an adrenaline so strong it keeps me running.
What do you think of women’s snowboarding today? Where do you see it going?
I think women are all about the heart and soul of a sport. Its not so much about the competition, but rather about getting out there and enjoy ever minute of it. I expect it to keep growing. I expect us to rock that mountain like no pro-kid ever could.
What tricks do you plan on learning this year?
A back flip, 360 switch (switch is hard fo me yo)
Any good stories of entertaining or embarrassing wrecks?
Well my hardest wreck was a practice run at nationals. I taco’ed off a jump and landed on my back. I bounced back up and was like ok I’m good, two minutes later I realized I was in a bit more pain than I thought. But hey, still managed to secure some silver.
What do you think the worst snowboarding trend is?
What ever happened to that business trying to sell waterproof skirts?
Do you think style should get more credit in the contest circuit, or should tricks be judged mostly by their level of technical difficulty?
I’m going to have to go with style here for sure. In my world, I can’t do every trick everyone else can, that’s just a fact. But you can bet my 360 switch is gonna look alot cooler than your Cab 7!
Up to anything other than snowboarding?
I live in Utah, one of the recreation capitals of the west! Rock Climbing, wakeboard, hiking . . . . and when I get a new one, mountain biking.
What would you do for a Klondike bar?
MMMM, ride closing day in a waterproof skirt, bikini top and clown wig.
