What do you think of women’s snowboarding today? Where do you see it going?
I think that it is progressing at an amazing rate and starting to be able to stand on it’s own. However, there needs to be more girls out shredding to push the level of girls’ riding. I’d like to see more originality, creative style and a wider variety of girls in the magazines. Overall, it is going in a good direction and I’m excited to see what the next generations of women will bring to the sport.
Any good stories of entertaining or embarrassing wrecks?
One day spring riding at A Basin a friend and I were hyped up on energy drinks, singing and dancing in the lift lines causing a scene. We got up to get on the chair and we continued to dance jumping on the chair when it came. As we got on and started to go up my friend turned to yell something back to the lifty. I was chair dancing as she lost her balance and grabbed me causing us to fall off the chair, in front of the whole lift line that was previously telling us to stop “drinking and riding”. I wasn’t really that embarrassed, but this snowboard experience always makes me laugh.
One other one was when I dropped into the pipe during my Grand Prix run and fell before my first hit. ...that’s embarrassing.
What do you think the worst snowboarding trend is?
Guys wearing tight pants...Not very functional.
Do you think style should get more credit in the contest circuit, or should tricks be judged mostly by their level of technical difficulty?
I think both need to be taken into consideration. Today it seems that style is more important than a really technical run that isn’t as smooth. I guess I’d rather see a super smooth, floaty 5 than a no grab whipped around 9.
Up to anything other than snowboarding?
School/Entrepreneurship, traveling, and visiting friends
Pirates or Ninjas?
Ooo tough one..mmm… lets go with Ninjas, wax on, wax off.
What’s the best piece of advice you give campers while you’re coaching at Mt. Hood?
If you’re not having fun, you’re not snowboarding.
If you became uber famous, would you prefer to do more competitions or filming? Or just do ads for American Express?
D, all of the above.
