Esthera Preda

The girls behind Bitches with Stitches are back at it with a new film, So Fresh… So Tight.  We talked to Esthera Preda, who is not only one of the riders, but also works on editing and production.  Judging from the trailer, these girls have progressed a lot since last year’s film, and got some great footage, so we’re stoked to check out a new video that introduces us to some sick up-and-coming girls.

Interview with Esthera:

How did you come up with the idea to create an all-girl snowboard film?

We have always been a tight crew of girls riding together. We’re really close to each other and since Quebec city has lots of street setups, it’s always more fun and less scary to try new stuff with friends. I think we’ve also been influenced by our friends, the boy’s crew brothersfactory, who’s been filming and making movies since ever.

Where did you meet all of the girls who are involved?  Is it a crew of girls that normally shreds together?

At beginning we were only 3 girls, pretty much the only ones shredding parks at that time. Then we got more into contests and so we met almost all the girls shredding in the province. We got tired of riding our small hills, so the past 3 seasons we spent lots of time in the west coast. That’s how we met all the girls in our movies.

What inspires the names for your movies?  For instance, do you actually get a lot of stitches?

Actually, I have to say that the name of our first movie (Bitches with Stitches) was found by the genius of Laurent-Nicolas Paquin (LNP). This year’s movie, So Fresh.. So Tight, was more to express a new beginning, because we had some serious changes in the editing/production crew.

What do you have to say about the snowboard scene in Quebec?  Are there a lot of female riders?

From what I’ve seen so far in the places I’ve been, I can definitely say that we are a lot closer to each other and that we got LOTS of support from the industry. We have seen such progression these past years. If I just take a look at the contest scene, when I started we were never more than 3-4 girls and now the average is at least 20.

We’ve noticed some great progression between the first film and the second.  What’s the biggest difference between the two films?

We have filmed sooo much more. After we released the first movie, we got so much positive feedback, so we decided to continue and push more and more. We’re pretty stoked on the latest movie. It really represents us. I have to say that some girls really evolved too and added some serious material to the movie.

Do you invite new girls to ride in your films, or is it just the same crew?

I think we’re really open minded on that point. We always call as many girls as we can when we go ride. I’m also doing the editing now along with my sister and my good friend, and I don’t think we ever refused any footage that we received from girls, except maybe if the video was too low quality.

So, what is your full role behind the scenes with these films?

As well as riding, I also edit and produce the movie along with my sister, Patricia Preda and my good friend, Ariane Moisan. I also try to give as much exposure I can to the movie, by setting up some premieres and events. But you know, after all this is really a collective project, and everyone put a little something somewhere.

Are you planning on filming again this season?

Definitely. We got new equipement too, so we’ll hopefully be even more productive.

Where can girls find your latest film?

For now only in snowboard shops in the Province of Quebec, but we’re currently working on a way to spread it as far as we can! So we’ll keep you guys posted with that.

Do you prefer riding and filming with girls?

I like riding and filming with people having good attitude.

Which riders really inspire you and your style?

I have to say that Ariane Moisan has ever had a sick style wich I really like. Last year, I had the chance to met June Bhongjan in Bear. She’s really killing it, with such a nice style too… and really everyone stoked on riding (Laurie Gauvin, my sister, my brother...)

Pirates or Ninjas?

I think it’s time to bring back the ninjas.

Any other comments?

Thanks Shredbetties! These girls are sick, keep on checking out their mag!!
