Anne-Flore Marxer

Suzanne

We caught up with one of our fave riders, Anne-Flore Marxer, to check out what’s going on her world and what her plans are for the upcoming season.  Anne-Flore has been a staple in the Runway films and a big face for Burton up until her recent switch over to Billabong.  You can read more about her on her blog: http://www.annefloremarxer.com

Home mountain?

The Alps, anywhere with an apres ski party !

Sponsors?

Billabong, Oakley, Fiat freestyle team, dvs, Les Ettes, Bluebird

Years riding?

About 10 years by now…

Setup?

Goofy, -9, +21

When did you first start riding?

My dad came back with a snowboard when I was around 12 years old for my brother and I to try, the boots were 2 sizes too small but still, it was a sunny day. I kept on skiing for 2 years after that, switching between the skis and the board, skiing with my parents and snowboarding with my friends.  Later on, I found it much more attractive to go shred with friends, so I snowboarded more and more, leaving the skis behind.

After all the Because of Snowboarding filming you did over the summer, what caused the sudden split with Burton?

Sponsor changes are part of all athletes’ careers. My contract with Burton came to an end and I felt like going my own way.  I am glad I took that decision, ‘cause I’ve just had my first summer break in a long time.  I got to surf tons and spend time with my familly and friends, which was fantastic!

We hear you recently signed with Billabong though; what excites you the most about working with the Billabong team?

Yeah, I am very excited to be part of the Billabong team! Their women’s team is insane! Tara Dakides , Jamie Anderson, Jenny Jones, Claudia Fliri , and me.

I’m currently working on my pro model outerwear jacket; I’m stoked on that!

And everyone at Billabong is really fun to work with… I’m excited about this new adventure and looking forward to what lies ahead.

On your website, you said you were excited for winter so you could wear all your new outerwear.  Which pieces of Billabong outerwear are you most excited about sporting this season?

Exactly! My own: the jacket I’m designing right now.

With your recent changes in sponsors, what’s your plan for the upcoming season?  More filming or competing?

I will be filming all winter. That’s what I’m good at, and what I want to do.  Billabong fully supports me in this direction which makes things easy and allows me to stay focused!

There have been quite a few films under your belt…  I’m still partial to Ro Sham Bo, but what is your favorite film you’ve participated in filming?

I filmed really shortly with the Oakley Uniquely movie last winter, and it is probably the one movie I’m stoked I was part of.  I got very few shots in it, but the movie is all around action sports with all the Oakley female riders, and they killed it.  It’s such a cool thing to see the skaters, surfers and wakeboarders! I got to meet all the girls who filmed for this movie, and they are the coolest girls ever !

Also, you seem to drop your pants quite a bit in movies, are you an undercover flasher or just have to pee a lot? smile

You are probably talking about my part in LaLaLand?  Well here is the story behind the scene: we were a crew of 5 (3 riders, 1 cameraman, 1 photographer) lost in the Chilean mountains way out of bounds.  I had just hurt my knee on the first drop of the day. My knee had swollen from the injury and I was sitting on the sled my pants down icing my knee all day while the girls were getting shots. One of them told me that I wouldn’t be able to dance anymore, so I stood up and I showed I still could on one foot. That silly fun moment of a bad day of injury ended up in my video part. I find it funny to do silly things, and they become quite embarrassing when they are on film!

You’ve said that the Alps got you used to riding big runs and that your real passion is for big mountain riding.  Which mountains have you been to that just completely blew you away?

Well anywhere in the Alps, I quite like the Austrian mountains for their apres ski, Jackson Hole in Wyoming, Los Andes are really good mountains as well, Whistler and all steep places with good powder!

What other professional snowboarder inspires you to keep pushing the limits?

I rode with Jana Meyen last winter and she is awesome to ride with.  We liked the same type of spots: we both look for the bigger cliffs or heavier stuff.  She had a very positive outlook on everything which makes things that much more fun.

Pirates or Ninjas?
