Little Running Mouth
Megan Burnett
When you think about snowboarding, are you also automatically thinking about dollars and cents? Most of us look at the initial costs that we are going to have to fork out each season: passes, gas money, new gear, etc.. For the most part though, all those details are just that: details. Details that we’ll all figure out one way or another when the time comes, because all we know is that no matter what we’ll be there when the weather graces us with amazing powder days.

Everyone knows that our economy is in the crapper at the moment. Over the next few years, there’s a good possibility that we might end up losing some amazing companies to the decrease in sales. I know I’ve tightened my wallet, and I sure most of you have been doing the same. This period of conservation when it comes to the green, could ultimately change the face of snowboarding as we know it today.
As Shred Betties newest columnist (woo hoo), I’ll be popping up on a weekly basis to keep you updated on everything from the issues our industry is facing, saving a fewbucks on your next trip to the mountain, gear conservation tips, and companies facing changes today. Why do you care? As long as you are depending on a company to ride, whether it’s your home mountain or this season’s new gear, this does affect you! Also, if any of you have interest in a career in the snowboard industry, my fun, boring, disastrous, or possibly life-altering (dream big right) articles could give you that extra heads-up you were looking for.
What’s with the name? Little Running Mouth is the Indian name, given to my 1/64th Cherokee self as a kid because, well, I tend to never shut up. So, I’m putting that trait to good use, check back next week and the weeks to follow to see what new information about today’s snowboarding economics I’ll be throwing your way.
Quick Tip: Make that Jacket or Pants last one more season- Scotch Guard. It’s cheap, easy, and can be picked up at any local grocery store. Hang your items up to spray, and it only takes about 5 minutes!
