Inaugural Hoodie Tuesday

Yesterday we were on the eve of history, and today that history was made. This inaugural Tuesday marks the beginning of a new era - one where the color of your hoodie matters more than the color of your skin. Black and white are mixed together, not separate. Colors stand side by side. Okay…maybe they’re just sewn side by side on this hoodie. Close enough, right?

If you’re not so patriotic, this hoodie is still for you. Having both ying and yang is the secret to life. Balance. Without balance we lose our minds.  Without balance you can’t snowboard with stability. Without balance people might just question your sobriety. Ignore those people. To keep yourself in check pull your arms into the Volcom Girls Splitzo Black & White Hoodie.

just because we’re girls doesn’t mean we want to focus more on how we look than how we ride.

more articles on training, what chicks are doing on the slopes and how they are dealing with specific issues girl snowboarders face would be great. less articles on stuff the industry thinks we should wear while doing all of this stuff would be great. thanks

here’s a specific example: yesterday, while waiting in line for the lift, i overheard some guy scoffing over how lame he thinks it is to teach girls to carve. i was extremely frustrated and annoyed and even more motivated. it seems like there’s a lot of support for girl snowboarders but also a lot of sexism, because the sport is predominantly male.

who knew there’d be such a strong reaction to a little hoodie?  wink

Thanks for the feedback though, this is actually an issue we’ve been talking about a lot. We get so much stuff in from companies about gear that it totally swamps our other content (the gear stuff comes in every day, and we just can’t write that kind of content that quickly!). So we’ve definitely been thinking about how to deal with this, and are even taking applications for some new writing interns to help make sure there is plenty of content on the topics we really want to cover.

There is definitely a lot of sexism in the industry, and we do try and talk about it, but unfortunately there’s no way to write as many articles on sexism as there are on new gear. We do try to showcase sick female riders, as well as professional women working in the industry in order to show that women are an important part of snowboarding.

well, i agree that if you look good you feel good, and if you feel good you ride well, which means you ride safe, but it seems like the looks part is overemphasized. i don’t think anyone should focus heavily on sexism, just that it would be nice to see the occaisional article about it just to know we’re not alone

the wtf column probably has the most commentary on sexism… http://www.shredbetties.com/oa/section/wtf/

i don’t envy you your task. you must get tons of sample products from clothing and gear manufacturers. thanks for the link - i like your columns. seems like there is a lot of balance in that section.

maybe i’ll apply for one of the internships. btw - “we don’t need to buy more stuff”‘s entry is from me also - my computer was acting up. sorry to be all up in the comments. i’m not an angry feminazi / bitchboarder btw - i don’t think you have to go to either extreme to have fun. there are guys i enjoy riding with just as much as i enjoy riding with some girls.

cheers
