Annie get your Beanie…thing.

I don’t know about where you live, but in New York, it’s gotten cold. And on cold days, there’s nothing worse then being unprepared for the elements. Remember that scene in A Christmas Story where the mom dresses Ralphie’s brother up in all of that snow gear, and by the end, he’s so bundled up that he can’t put his arms down? Yeah, sometimes that’s how I feel before I head outside. And being the scatterbrained person I am, I sometimes end up wandering around my apartment looking for various pieces of my “Damn it’s cold out” clothes.

Urban Beanies

So rather than beating Kelly up over her meanie words about one of my favorite outerwear companies, I’ve instead decided to feature a Holden beanie for this edition of Beanie Thursday. Partially because I’m the non-violent type, partially because I’m pretty sure Kelly could kick the shit out of me. I think she has a black belt in something. So I’ll go the pacifist route instead!

Election Day Beanie

Today is Election Day here in the States. Regardless of your political beliefs, I hope everyone is registered to vote and took advantage of that right today. In honor of this very important Tuesday, I thought I would show off some special edition Election Day Beanies.

Yikes…Stripes….

On Tuesday of this week, I woke up to a phone call from my mom informing me that it was snowing in Pennsylvania and that I should probably not attempt to ride my bike to the train station as I usually do. Gotta love moms, always acting like....well....moms, even when you’re in your late 20s. I was glad she let me know though, because despite the complete lack of snow in New York, it was cold and rainy which gave me the perfect excuse to pull out not only a beanie, but also my snowboarding jacket. And people wonder why I love winter!

Adopt a new kind of beanie

Occasionally, while looking for beanies for this blog, I get frustrated that more companies don’t think outside the beanie box. I mean honestly, there are only so many things you can say about a pom beanie after you’ve already talked about 4 or 5 this year. In these cases, I start to look outside of the typical companies that we, as snowboarders, tend to gravitate towards. In this case, my search brought me to Adopt.

Project Runway x Beanie Thursday

As some readers may know, I really really really like Project Runway. It’s the one show on television that I watch, no matter what. Anyway last night was the season finale, so I thought it would be fun to do a Beanie Thursday in honor of this. If you like the show and you haven’t watched yet, don’t read any further, because there be spoilers ahead!

Let’s Talk Custom…..Beanies.

Gotta be the most unique girl on the mountain? Bored with mainstream beanies? Or just against supporting companies that are using Chinese factories to create your threads? Then you, my friend, need to look into getting yourself a custom made beanie.

Build Me Up Beanie Cup

Happy Thursday everyone!

So I recently have decided to put my willpower to the test by cutting things like cookies, chocolate, and delicious Carmelita bars from Whole Foods out of my diet. I’ve done so in the interest of health, and with the realization that when my metabolism slows down one of these days, I’m going to be in for hell if I keep eating like a college kid. So I’ve found myself reaching for an apple when we have office birthday parties, and turning down the calls of “Oreos in the kitchen!” in the middle of the day.

It’s very depressing.

How I spent my summer vacation

What’s this? What’s back? Could it be....Beanie Thursday??? IT IS! Yay!

I hope you all had lovely summers and did all sorts of summer things like going to the beach and spending time outdoors without wearing 18 layers of super technical fabrics that promise to keep you warm without making you sweat. But as we all know, the biggest problem with summer is that knit hats don’t really seem logical. In fact, beanies pretty much go into hibernation during the summer months. And while it’s still not cool enough to start wearing them yet, I figure it’s fall (er, well almost. A couple of days), so it’s time to start planning for the new collections!

15 Beanies for Under $15

So I hear it’s spring. Not just according to the calendar, but according to the trees (they’re budding), the birds (they’re chirping) and the mountains (they’re closing…sigh). As much as I really do love not freezing my butt off while I bike to the train every day, Spring is just a sad time of year. Fortunately, spring means sales, so for this Beanie Thursday, let’s go bargain shopping and take a look at some of the awesome beanies that are on sale for $15 and under right now! Froogle is your friend to find these!

Spring Beanies

So the east coast is officially in the grips of Spring, which is a sad thing, since that means the snow is melting. In fact, the only positive I can say about Spring is that it means the sales have started! Nothing like being able to buy beanies at half price.

Is it Thursday Again?

Eek, where are the weeks going? Seems like I was just writing a Beanie Thursday, and here we are again!

In a departure from my handknitted looking beanie choices, this week we’ll be featuring a slick look from the ever lovely Nikita. If homespun isn’t what you’re going for when looking to top of your outerwear kit, check out the Nikita Nanna. It’s got big fat stripes and NIKITA emblazoned smack in the middle, so everyone will know that you’re a girl who rides. To add a bit more flair, this beanie is topped by a pom, which will let you get your Snoopy on. I love Nikita, so I’m all about supporting their style. Since all the stores seem to think winter was over three weeks ago (Clearly they don’t listen to the groundhog), better grab this one while you have the chance!

St. Valentine Would Have Loved This One

Happy Valentine’s Day from Beanie Thursday. If you’re anything like me, you’re probably not a huge fan of the day, but hey, at least we have beanies to make us happy, right? I even have a festive one for us today!

Check out the Mixer beanie from Bonfire. It has a bunch of super cute color combinations, and a style that says, “Yeah, I might be girly, but I’m not going to hit you over the head with it.” The cute heart pattern has a handknitted feel, and the dual lines at the bottom of the beanie give it a more refined edge. The leather Bonfire tag detail gives this beanie added flair. Check all of the awesome colors, and have a great day today!

Here are all the awesome colors this beanie comes in:

Fine Art Beanies

Welcome back to Beanie Thurs….Oh what? It’s not Thursday yet? Well too bad, because I just found this and need to share it with you, all of my beanie loving friends.

Birds are the New Butterflies

You know, say what you will about Burton, but you have to give their marketing department credit. They know that girls like to be totally coordinated with their gear and clothes, and damned if they don’t deliver. I’ll never forget the first time I saw the whole boots match bindings match board thing and thought…Wow…That was smart! And now, as I was looking for a new Beanie Thursday, I again had to reflect that Burton really does have it down.

Kitties and Pandas and Frogs, Oh my!

Winter has returned to New York, and that means my beanies are out in full force! Beanie time really is the best time of year.

This week, we’re reverting back to our childhood a bit. Ah, being a kid. Remember when it was totally acceptable to wear ludicrous things and people wouldn’t look at you like you need to go get professional help? One of my favorite things to see is kids running around the park in outfits they obviously picked out themselves, like pink tutus with red rain boots and striped tights and a top with unicorns on it. You know that the kid is going to either grow up to thank her parents for allowing her to foster her creativity, or will be absolutely appalled when her mom pulls out those pictures the first time her boyfriend comes over for dinner.

A Beanie That’s the Cat’s Pajamas

This week we’ve got a beanie that harkens back to days of speakeasies, the Charleston, and the horror known as prohibition. That’s right, we’re heading back to the Roaring 20’s!

Beanies Make the World Go Round

Hello and welcome back to Beanie Thursdays! I must apologize for my slacking over the past couple of weeks, but now I’m back. In full force. Go beanie Go!

Anyway, I have a challenge for you all. I want you to show off whatever beanies you aquired during the holiday season, whether it was for Christmas, birthdays, Solstice, or just something you bought yourself because no one seems to understand your beanie addiction. I’ll show off the legion of Beanie lovers in a future post! Send pictures of yourself and your beanie to julie at shredbetties dot com.

Onto this week’s beanie.

Space Invader

This weeks Beanie Thursday comes to us from the always fantastic Spacecraft. Not only are they a super fun company, they make super fun beanies as well!

Check out their Sugar Pop beanie. Bright fun colors, hearts, weird little X’s. This is definitely a beanie that will get you compliments, or at least a few odd looks. And it’s no matter that it probably won’t match anything in your wardrobe. The point of beanies is to have fun, not conform to color laws!
