Latest Drool Item

I admit it. I LOVE goggles. I currently own the Oakley Crowbar Denim Edition and 2 different lenses. All in perfectly fine condition, but that doesn’t stop me from drooling over Oakley’s newest goggle: the Oakley Splice.

The O matter frame gives it flexibility. The lenses are easier to change out compared to the crowbar. AND the new internal support relieves pressure from your nose. That’s a triple win in my book. It’s a shame that with Oakley’s price tag I cannot justify ditching my current goggles to buy the Splice. However, that won’t stop me from putting it on the holiday wish list for this winter.

WTF - Fake Snowflakes?

These days, it doesn’t even seem like all the film crews do the token chick part like they used to, so we were happy to see a few companies coming out with all-girl efforts this season.  The first to come to a theater near me (and appear for free on the interweb ) is Stance, a film by J.Mills featuring some of the bigger female names in snowboarding competitions today.  And, I must say… why the hell did they fake in little snowflakes in half the scenes?  I know, I know, I should be focused on the riding, but the cartoon snow is really distracting!  Seriously, I can’t stop staring at it.  I mean it’s not at all realistic - since when does snow fall in polka-dots?  At the beginning, they even added fake clouds and fake flocks of birds to the fake snow, all to some new age music that makes me feel like Frodo is about to pop out of that scary black witch mountain thing and wave his sword.

WTF… Thursday?

Today as I was procrastinating doing anything productive, I wandered over to the new Burton Community website.  I’d checked it out a few weeks ago, while discussing the demise of the Burton Message Board with my boyfriend, who was saddened to hear that they might be killing off one of his favorite outlets for jackassery.  I was surprised to find they’d changed the community into a twitter-like list of random “updates” that you can respond to with stupid comments. Since then, they’ve decided to keep the BMB around, but refuse to link to it.  Now my boyfriend can mock people in peace… if they ever happen to somehow accidentally find the BMB.

WTF - Women’s Annual Made by Dudes?

I was excited to find a copy of the Snowboard Magazine Women’s Annual in the mail on Monday ... partly because it appeared to be a full magazine, not just a slender insert, and partly because I don’t actually have a subscription to Snowboard Magazine.  Not sure where it came from, but yay free stuff.

If you haven’t mysteriously gotten this issue in the mail, I suggest you check it out.  It covers a lot of interesting female riders that you may not know much about.

But wait, then why is this a WTF?

WTF - Environmentalism Schminvironmentalism

Richard Bass, the owner of Snowbird, has apparently decided to embrace the truly destructive nature of resort ownership, and give the finger to all of the environmental watch groups in the most offensive way he could think of - coal strip-mines in the Alaskan wilderness.  Way to tell the National Ski Area Associations Sustainable Slopes program how it really is, Richard.  Nevermind this whole effort to convince the general public that your resort is going to single-handledly stop global warming.  Might as well just encourage everyone to burn more coal… and you know, kill a few salmon and trees while you’re at it.  And maybe upset a few grizzly bears.

WTF Wednesday - Chicks Dig Expensive Stuff Too!

So I’m sure if you spend too much time on the internet like me, you’ve heard the buzz about Burton’s crazy expensive prices for next season.  They’ve marked everything up, boo hoo, what will it do to prices from other manufacturers, yada yada yada.  What I really want to know is: why don’t the chicks get a $1500 snowboard?  I mean, come on, us ladies like to spend money too!  Why leave us out?
