Gear Rashes

This is a no shame piece. One of those blogs you come across and the person who wrote it just let it all hangout there for you to know. Most of you who read this will probably think “Oh that’s nasty, who would openly admit to that and then blast it over the internet for everyone to read!”

What’s going on with your local snowboard retailers?

This week, I decided to find out what is happening in your local snow shops.  Hopefully this brings you a little more insight that you can somehow use in the future, even if it’s just by seeming (BUD)wiser when chatting it up with someone on lifts this weekend!

WTF - No Snowboarding in New York City?

This video on humanitysnow.com starts on an uplifting note; Brooklyn snowboarder Brian “Deka” Paupaw takes advantage of the big East Coast snowfall to show some kids from the projects the joys of snowboarding… until the Park Rangers show up.  Watch it for the story:

Happy Holidays!

Instead of bitching and complaining about what is going wrong due to the crap economy this week, I think it would be a good idea to focus on the positive. Christmas is here, and if you are Jewish you’ve already been celebrating for a bit. The New Year is on its way and it’s time to have the attitude of out with the old and in with the new.

Little Running Mouth

When you think about snowboarding, are you also automatically thinking about dollars and cents? Most of us look at the initial costs that we are going to have to fork out each season: passes, gas money, new gear, etc.. For the most part though, all those details are just that: details. Details that we’ll all figure out one way or another when the time comes, because all we know is that no matter what we’ll be there when the weather graces us with amazing powder days.

WTF - Bringing Back the Bunny

Former pro snowboarder Circe Wallace has started up a new company featuring “state-of-the-art skiwear technology with a modular fashion experience.”  This begs the question… how is a one piece modular?  I guess it’s just one module.  Like a single wide?

WTF… Ashbury Goggles?

So, I understand having inexpensive goggles… many of us can’t afford to drop $150 on the latest Oakleys, and you don’t NEED the fancy spherical optics and mega anti fog vents to snowboard.  But what’s with all these cheap-ass looking goggles lately that still cost almost $100?  I’m mad enough that I have to wait around for nice goggles to go on sale 75% off to afford them, but now I need to do the same for the crap ones!  WTF?

Latest Drool Item

I admit it. I LOVE goggles. I currently own the Oakley Crowbar Denim Edition and 2 different lenses. All in perfectly fine condition, but that doesn’t stop me from drooling over Oakley’s newest goggle: the Oakley Splice.

The O matter frame gives it flexibility. The lenses are easier to change out compared to the crowbar. AND the new internal support relieves pressure from your nose. That’s a triple win in my book. It’s a shame that with Oakley’s price tag I cannot justify ditching my current goggles to buy the Splice. However, that won’t stop me from putting it on the holiday wish list for this winter.
