Meet Christina
Hello all!! My name is Christina and I’m from the wonderful East Coast residing in Upstate, NY. I’m a 24 year old mom and wife who had never even seen an actually mountain resort until 3 years ago. Sad but true. I blame my parents. I was introduced to snow sports by my husband when we first met and my first time was awful!!

WTF - Is Every All-Girl Event on the Same Weekend?
I just got in a whole slew of final “reminder” press releases for upcoming competitions and posted them on the site, and it occurred to me as I was posting them, that they all seem to be on the same day! I know, I probably should have noticed that they were on the same day the first time the dates came out. What can I say, I’m a little slow.

WTF Happened to WTF?
I’ve been getting some comments about the lack of WTF columns lately. Well, if you really want to know, everyone keeps disagreeing with me. And then I cry. What? I don’t look like a crier to you? Well, guess what, I am! So next time you disagree with me, try to do it with some sensitivity, okay?
But seriously, what I really wanted to talk about today was that dead actress chick and all the controversy she’s stirring up. See how I said “dead actress chick?” There’s an example of using “sensitivity.” Now you try it.

Spring Slouch
Spring seems to have come a little too early this year in Colorado, especially when it was snowing down south. With all the sunny days and slushy snow over the last month, it’s easy to slip into the relaxed vibe that you normally don’t get until it’s full-blown summertime. It appears all the skiers and boarders have almost developed a bit of a slouch, and so have their beanies. I know that I can’t seem to be bothered with a beanie that fits exactly to my head.

It’s always snowing somewhere
My name is Sarah, I am interning here at Shred Betties for a while. I am from England, but seeing as we have no real mountains to speak of, I’ve moved to Austria to check out the Euro-shred and chase the pow. So far, so good as the snow this season has been epic. I’m a backcountry rider and like nothing more than carving out a fresh line, but I am trying to get involved with the park scene this season cos my new ‘local’ mountain has some pretty decent set ups.

Everybody likes a Free Beanie!
Considering everyone is a little bit strapped for cash these days, I thought I would talk about a way to score a free beanie instead of just one to buy… http://www.ahlivv.com, an online womens’ boutique is offering a little bonus with any Nikita purchase. All you have to do is buy any Nikita item and you get a beanie for free. So, yeah, you still have to buy something but it’s like getting 2 for 1 and who minds extra Nikita gear anyway, right?

Belated Beanie Thursday
I promise I had every intention of getting Beanie Thursday out on Thursday, but the website I wanted to feature had to go and be all Flash, making it difficult for me to get images while at work on my PC. So, here I am, writing Beanie Thursday on Saturday. My apologies. I had seen an Elm Company cap on http://www.shreddingbetty.com before which was the first time I had heard of this company, but then when I started thinking beanies the other day I somehow ended up on their site. I had no idea that there was such a varied array of things I wanted to wear on my head waiting for me.

Brociety debuts! Another way to break the bank
Backcountry Corp. has come up with yet another way to get us to open our pocketbooks and spend the last couple days leading up to payday scrounging our cupboards for the likes of ramen or tunafish. This new One-deal-at-a-time (ODAT) website is called Brociety and focuses on snowboarding instead a wide variety of boarding sports like Whiskey Militia. I think they are going to be able to come up with a million different specializations before they’re done, but I have to say I’m sickly ok with it.

Beanie Thursday Hijacked!
Today, as I was browsing around MySpace friend requesting random people who looked like snowboarders and appeared to be female, and I came across the cutest, neonest shop ever. They’re from Slovenia, so I can’t understand any of the writing, and am forced to just randomly click on things… but that’s not really that distressing, because there are so many fun and cute things to look at. What is distressing: I’m not sure I’ll be able to decipher the shopping cart section.

Redbull Snowscrapers
This past Thursday, Feb. 5th, Red Bull hosted a massive snowboard contest entitled Red Bull Snowscrapers. It was held in NYC’s East River Park. Some of the most dominating guys in snowboarding were listed on the roster. The diverse group of riders included contest phenom Shaun White, backcountry veteran Travis Rice, and Norwegian legend Terje Haakonsen. These are only a few of the powerhouses that showed up to NYC that night, but all came sharing a common goal: to conquer what would go down in snowboard history as the first ever hip jump contest. Red Bull erected a massive nine story drop-in ramp, and an eighty foot hip. All lit up against the back drop of the East River, that mountain of a jump was a sight to be seen.

WTF - Are you a Bitch?
Since Bitchboards opened their doors, we’ve been in full support of them, despite some nagging questions. We tested their boards, and kept our negative feedback off Shred Betties, to give them a chance to rectify the major design flaws. The boards had a sense of amateurishness to them - they were too stiff, too wide, and quite poorly constructed. They’ve since changed their manufacturer, so we’ve given them the benefit of the doubt. We figure us ladies should support one another, right?

Inaugural Hoodie Tuesday
Yesterday we were on the eve of history, and today that history was made. This inaugural Tuesday marks the beginning of a new era - one where the color of your hoodie matters more than the color of your skin. Black and white are mixed together, not separate. Colors stand side by side. Okay...maybe they’re just sewn side by side on this hoodie. Close enough, right?

Baby, it’s cold outside!
So it’s freezing in New York. And when it’s freezing in New York, it means that these awful, freezing humid winds blow in off of the water, form wind tunnels down the streets because of the tall buildings, and make things generally miserable. I like cold weather and everything, but I’m not such a fan of temperatures that feel like -10° with the wind chill.

Coincidence… or Evidence Corporate Super Spies?
As we prepare for the annual SIA convention in Vegas, I have been thinking about trends that I noticed last year that I meant to get around to writing about. One thing that was amusing… I kept running into things that are oddly similar. Ranging from designs that are similar just in their general concept, to items that can only be differentiated by button placement. The more you see, the more you start to wonder if these things are copies, knock-offs, or just bizarre coincidence. Maybe the designers are all friends, and accidentally let their ideas slip while out for after work cocktails? Or maybe the limited fabrics available from manufacturers cause different brands to wind up with the same thing accidentally?
