the key to ice boarding is to not be afraid!!! before that big snow storm hit vermont a few weeks ago it was day after day of all ice!!! just slow down when you see a patch of ice up front, bend your knees, ride right over it.  try and stay in control by holding your body weight up and just don’t try and carve over it.  carving a turn is totally possible on ice but only if you’ve got sharp edges.  don’t be afraid to make a turn and glide right over a patch into snow on the other side, but when a major section is froze, just ride down it carefully and GO SLOW, no falls smile

If I’m trapped in the middle of an icy patch , I usually sit down and enjoy the ride until I feel that I’ve reached control zone again. It’s not very good for the butt of the pants. Got a good experience of sliding on my butt last winter in one mountain resort , cause if one wanted to reach halfpipe one had to go down an always icy black slope, it was probably because of the very cold weataher and young slalom skiers were practising on it from some 7am till some 10am. So we gave up after several days of trying to manage it carving with our edges prepared for jibbing , lol. . If the patch is small or I’m close to the side of the piste I either just not carve on the patch or try to reach the side of the slope.

i ride the ice coast too and I find that wherever there is ice there is powder pushed up to the side somewhere, find the powder…

other than that sharpen your edges and hold on
