This year at SIA (Snowsports Industries of America Conference), DC Shoes unveiled their 2009 Snowboard line to the media at a special event in the Hugh Hefner Suite of the Palms Las Vegas. DC designed the inaugural board line with the same approach they take for all of their products: a focus on both performance and aesthetics, rider designed and tested models, unique technologies, and graphic collaborations that reflect the DC Shoes image.

DC proved they are here to stay in the industry, showing off their 2009 snow line in a huge $40,000 a night luxury suite. Plasma screens in each room showed an assortment of snowboard videos. In true Hugh Hefner style, the suite featured a rotating bed, glass elevator, and outdoor terrace with a playboy logo pool and expansive views of the Strip.

DC cofounder Ken Block introduced the line up of hardgoods for this year, which includes a women's series, and pro models from Iikka Bakstrom, Lauri Heiskari and Devun Walsh. The graphics for each snowboard speak to DC’s history in snowboarding, featuring images of DC’s Mtn Lab, the DC rider pendant and “bomb” park feature. For women in 2008-2009 DC offers a board called the BFF (best freestyle friend), a directional twin tip ranging in sizes 144cm to 152cm. According to DC, "the easy to ride, all-mountain BFF features a softer flex and a narrower width. It’s for ladies who spend most of their time in the park but also like to hit up the rest of the mountain." Check back for reviews of this board from myself and other Shred Betties staff once we get it out on snow.

Kimmy Fasani

At the event, I also had the opportunity to talk with DC Am team rider Kimmy Fasani about her season and riding for DC. This year her hard work paid off, with a “Rookie of the Year” nomination in the 2008 Transworld Riders Poll Awards. This season, she will be filming with the Runway Films crew, and continuing to compete. It’s great to see fellow women riders out there shredding hard and stoked on pushing the limits of female snowboarding.

The DC outerwear was also showcased at the event. This year, DC went with an eclectic use of color and bold fabrics, including bright silver one-piece, which will easy to spot on the mountains this winter. New for 2009, DC is offering the Glow in the Park outerwear that features reflective, waterproof, breathable outerwear that glows for up to 3 hours in the dark. It'll be offered for both men and women.
