SOS: Chair Lift
Winter is here! Many resorts are open, about to open, or will be open soon enough. It’s time to get reacquainted with the downsides of a ski resort like waiting in line for the chairlift. It’s no secret that getting in the singles line can often get you up to the top faster, but it can come at a cost once you’re on the chair. Some of those people you’re sitting with can be rather annoying at times.
What do you do? How do you survive that long trip up? (Even high-speed quads can be long trips)
Check out these solutions from the team:
Randa Shahin offers the polite approach:
Ignore them as best as possible without being too rude. Basically nod and reply with “That’s cool” to everything (or other short one or two words responses).
Got your iPod? Follow Claire DeMeyer, Angela Halo, and Megan Ginter’s method:
Turn up the iPod.
Up for some laughs? Pretend you can’t ride. Michelle Shea chooses this amusement route:
I lie and ask the people sitting next to me if they can give me lessons because I´m, “Just learning how to carve.” It’s usually pretty funny to hear their responses, especially if it’s a bunch of guys from Texas! The best thing about chair lifts with strangers is that they have no idea whats going on for the most part, so I take advantage of their naiveness and lie about everything; I’m always amused!
Mackenzie Matters offers up a variety of options:
1.) Jump off
2.) Push them off
3.) Put your head phones on and turn the music up
4.) Try to be more annoying or weirder than them. Do whatever it takes: sing loudly, drool, mimic them, twitch, swing the chair, have random out bursts, scrap your board against their gear every couple minutes or just talk with a Texas accent.
5.) If that doesn’t work then just be overly intellectual about a topic that just leaves them dumbfounded.
One or all of these options has got to work!
(Note: We don’t recommend you push them off, jump off, or break the chair and will not be held responsible if problems should arise from you doing so).
