On The Road to Gold

Christina Johnson

Training has begun for the 2010 Winter Olympics, although the official snowboard team has yet to be determined. Pro riders have been competing all winter for a coveted spot that will raise the bar in the sport for years to come.

A state of the art facility recently opened in Salt Lake City, Utah allowing riders to have access to the best equipment, educational resources, coaches, judges, and doctors to help in the fight for Olympic Gold. The opening ceremonies are a little over 9 months away and the pressure is on.

Center for Excellence is a key facility for building strength and honing skills. It’s more than just a run of the mill gym that has stationary bikes, treadmills, free weights and pools. Center for Excellence is a three story, 85,000 sq powerhouse that features a “ramps and tramps” area that consists of trampolines, a skateboard bowl, ramps to practice tricks, and boardercross starting gates. Beyond these there is also a state of the art sport science lab, sports medicine and recovery area, and an added plus of a nutrition center.

The Center for Excellence opened it’s doors in May to the top boarders in the US who will test their limits to exceed the worlds expectations.  The opportunity provided for athletes, parents, judges, officials, and coaches will help them compete with the top athletes in the world.

On July 17, the Center for Excellence will open it’s doors to the public.
