Bikini Thursday: Bikini Photo Shoot Adventures with Justin Keena

Erin Blaisdell

I know my parents told me multiple times to stop jumping on the bed. But to be asked to stop skating on the bed has yet to occur in my life, or happen for that matter. Photographer and friend, Justin Keena took it to an all new level this past week on site of his recent photo shoot. Justin informed me of this next portfolio shoot while we spent the day skating all over San Francisco on my recent visit. All I knew was that it was going to involve hot babes in bikinis, something vintage, and the sun rise.  When we met up, the first thing I told him was that we were going to go on an adventure. I had no idea how adventurous he actually was until we had our skateboards strapped to our backs and we were scaling a 30 foot cliff along side the Pacific Ocean just to get to a skate spot we had been seeking out. Though, this adventure was nothing compared to his world travels, skateboarding through ten countries in southeast Asia and hiking in Nepal all while carrying his clothes and all of his camera gear on his back.

Justin being a polished and professional photographer based in Boston, Massachusetts, but in the process of expanding out to San Francisco, California, hasn’t gotten to his level of expertise by standing around and waiting for the perfect shot. Instead, he seeks out what he desires and makes it happen. So, it was no surprise to me that his recent shoot went the way it did.

The shoot started out last Friday night, driving two hours out to a small hotel in Wellfleet, Massachusetts on Cape Cod.  His models consisted of two girls, a surfer from San Diego and a model from Brazil. ( As you may begin to notice Justin has a really hard life.) Even though the shoot was planned for the early morning, arriving to their motel that night sparked potential for some pretty amazing shots.

This is what happens when you combine a motel room headboard, an old school skateboard, a creative photographer and surfer.
Why not drop in on your own headboard or board slide the edge of a bath tub?

I guess this had to be karma because not too long after it was reported that the fire alarm began to go off, and in the attempt to shut it off an army of ants piled out of the ceiling onto Justin’s assistant and his bed. Apparently no one in this situation listened to their parents about the repercussions of jumping on your bed as a child. I guess they never thought we would want to skate on our beds. Thrashing around an old motel room is my kind of fun though, and understanding how Justin thinks adventurously and creatively allows me to fully understand why all of this took place.

After a successful impromptu photo shoot session they were up and out at 4am chasing the Cape Cod sun rise.  It was freezing out and super windy!  But the girls were hardcore and got out there with their bikinis and boards.  Police came by at 6am to see what was going on and then stuck around in the parking lot to watch hot babes posing in bikinis for a while, all in a days work.

Believe me when I say you will be seeing more of Justin’s work. If you are impatient like myself, check out Keena Photo here.
